About

Michael Greaves is a painter of puzzling interaction. He crosses many image genres and historical tropes. Greaves considers painting as reflective, renegotiating painterly topics that often reoccur within its history. In his works he utilizes media models as a transfer protocol, reflecting a disorientation found in modern ideas of reality. There is a sense of not quite fitting about Greaves' work, they are easily recognisable but beg further engagement slowly letting the painting come to bear, as painting.

Michael Greaves was born in Dunedin, New Zealand. He currently Lectures in Painting at the Dunedin School of Art.
